Amazon Web Services - Advantages

Amazon EC2

With AWS EC2 instances, it is a breeze to deploy SAP instance(s) on adhoc basis

  • try any third party bolt-on application with SAP
  • provide a sandbox to the Basis team to try Support pack upgrade
  • install SAP Enhancement pack to let Business users evaluate new functionality in SAP
  • take instant snapshot of AWS Instance and save the image as a backup
  • Incremental snapshots can also be taken as often as required to store delta changes on the servers
  • host servers for SAP training at different geographical locations around the world to conduct training for employees, with improved speed and performance
  • easily refresh SAP instances soon after the training class is over and get ready for next training schedule almost instantaneously by restoring the image
  • Servers can be either hosted in the public domain with public IP addresses, or in your own farm in VPC (virtual private cloud) using internal IP addresses without any access to general public, for privacy and security reasons

Amazon S3

  • Customer can use different tools such as S3 Explorer to access this storage and mount it as an external drive on their local desktops, laptops or even servers
  • Large volumes of data/files can be easily stored on AWS-S3 Volumes on pay-per-use basis
  • S3 volumes will automatically grow as you consume space on each volume
  • Can create different S3 volumes to support different applications and mount them on different machines to your convenience
  • Any unused space can be deleted any time without incurring further costs on that free space
